Basic Mortgage Underwriting Series Seminar

This comprehensive three-day mortgage underwriting workshop is designed to explain and provide the analytical tools needed to become an even more effective residential mortgage lender. From basic underwriting skills to the analysis of tax returns and real estate appraisals, you will gain the knowledge necessary to effectively serve your mortgage customers. Utilizing a combination of lecture, group discussion, and case analysis, participants will leave this workshop empowered to underwrite a residential loan application in less time and with more quality. A Certificate of Completion will be awarded to students who complete all three seminars.
DAY 1 – Basic Underwriting Skills (click on title to attend Day One only)
This seminar gives an excellent overview of the basics of mortgage underwriting, using standard secondary market guidelines. Topics to be covered include: the loan application; legal disclosures; income documentation and calculation; credit review; credit scores; asset valuation; collateral review; ratio calculations; the transmittal summary; and compensating factors.
DAY 2 – Underwriting Tax Returns (click on title to attend Day Two only)
This seminar is designed to give mortgage lenders a better grasp of tax returns and their importance in making quality loan decisions. Topics to be covered include: when tax returns are needed; an in-depth review of personal, corporate, partnership, and s-corp returns; qualifying methods used by secondary markets; profit and loss statements; and income averaging. DAY 3 – Underwriting Appraisals (click on title to attend Day Three only)
This seminar is designed to give you a better understanding of residential real estate appraisals. Content includes the new FNMA and FHLMC appraisal forms. Topics to be covered include: appraiser criteria, review of a single-family appraisal; valuation methods; comparable criteria; review of a multi-family appraisal; and short form appraisals.
Audience: This is an ideal workshop for loan processors, loan officers, new underwriters, and those who want a comprehensive review of the underwriting process.
Instructor: J.T. Turner has been involved in the banking industry for over 28 years, and currently serves as a private consultant for banks and credit unions in the areas of underwriting, automation, management, and training. J.T. has also been training financial professionals for over 18 years, and is widely considered to be one of CFT’s most popular instructors.
