Capital, Liquidity, and NPA Resolution Webinar

For many community bankers around the country, the 2008-2010 period has been a significant challenge. Starting with the residential mortgage melt-down and a severely weakened economy, we have found ourselves in a situation reminiscent of the 1986-1991 era. As was true then, our challenges revolve around ensuring we have the Capital to withstand this crisis, making certain that liquidity events do not cause problems, and resolving our loan problems. Our workshop leader, Karl Nelson, was an active participant in our last crisis in his role as a senior credit administrator for Florida National Bank in Miami and had a key role in the development of that bank’s Special Asset Process. Coupled with a strong background in the ALCO process, Karl brings an unusual understanding of what is needed to overcome this crisis and prepare for the next great era of banking.

Covered Topics:

•Capital – where has it come from, which institutions are having success raising capital, what are troubled community banks doing in this arena, and how are regulators viewing institutions that are struggling to raise needed capital?

•Liquidity – how is this risk being measured today and what are the basic ideas in the recent Liquidity and Funds Management Guidance? What are banks doing to create a successful Contingency Funding Plan and what kind of reporting is needed to ensure our Boards are current on our wholesale funding strategies? What are the most important non-core funding sources available today and what are banks doing to replace their brokered deposits once they lose this capability? Samples of a CFP and Wholesale Funding Report will be made available to our participants.

•Non Performing Asset Resolution – what are banks doing to “fix” their NPA problem and what kind of process is required to do so? How do you reduce your NPA’s without going for outside help? A Special Asset Form will be provided to our participants.

Who Should Attend?

This workshop is designed for community bank Boards, CEO’s, CFO’s and Senior Credit staff and we hope you will join us for this review of Survival Concepts for our troubled times.

Instructor:  Karl Nelson, President and CEO of KPN Consulting
